Blacksmithing - Metal Roses
For this project, I studied under John McClellan of the California Blacksmith Association. I started off with sheets of metal that we cut into petal of decreasing size and punched a square into the center of them. Then we hammered our metal rod into the shape of our stem using a coal forge, horn anvil, and a 1 lbs cross peen hammer, and I filed the section that would hold the petals in place. Then I textured the petals and stacked them to pin them to the rod. After they were pinned in place, used an oxyacetylene torch and pliers to bend each individual petal.
